Members of the Youth Forum kayaking during a trip to Avon Tyrell.
The Forum meets every Tuesday and Thursday evening, 7–9 pm at the Barnsbury Community Centre.
This Summer, members of the Forum went on a five day residential trip to Avon Tyrell, Hampshire and had a great time. Helped along by Jeana, Dexter and Ryan, 10 Barnsbury youngsters took part in a mixture of outdoor activities including kayaking, archery, swimming, high-rope and trapeze. They also went on in a trip to Bournemouth beach.
Remember, the Youth Forum takes place throughout the autumn/winter term every Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm–9pm in the Community Centre. Along with the arrival of some new computers, expect to see the completion of the recent table tennis coaching programme and the start of the ASDAN Citizenship course, which will cover topics such as rights and responsibilities, finance, work, the media, government, democracy, laws and the Courts.
The aim of this project is to improve and develop new youth provision on the Barnsbury Estate. The programme was developed in consultation with young people on the Barnsbury Estate and has been up and running since October 2007. The Youth Forum aims to facilitate services that would otherwise be unavailable to the wider community, focusing specifically on support and activities for young people of all ages. The programme has been developed in partnership with the Peel Institute and the now defunct Barnsbury Estate Community Association (BECA).
To help develop our programme we are looking at proposals to create a further night of activity for older residents from the Priory Green estate. This additional session would focus on Information, Advice and Guidance sessions for older residents between the ages of 16 and 24.
If you require further information or would like to discuss how you or your organisation could get involved in the programme, please contact Christopher Newport, Regeneration Projects Manager, on 020 7033 4654 or email cnewport@newlonfusion.org.uk.
