Eco Family at the 'Big Swap'!

On Saturday 12th February Newlon Fusion, in partnership with Global Action Plan, held a free community exchange event at Chats Palace, called the 'Big Swap'. A 'swap' is a fun new way of recycling unwanted things instead of throwing them away. The idea is that people bring along items like clothes and accessories, books, toys or games that they no longer want and 'swap' them for something else that they do want. Admission was free and we provided refreshments for people while they browsed.
The event was really enjoyable and 300kg of carbon was saved by diverting items from landfill!. We recieved 30 donations and over 100 people came along to the event. There was a wide variety of items to swap and everyone found something to to take home. And all this for free!
While they were there, poeple could also find out about composting. Samples of types of food to compost were on display and two experts were on hand to explain the benefits and how to go about it. Even children got involved in the activities.
The event was also attended by Liz and Monique from our Newlon Eco family. They were interested in finding out more about composting and managed to swap a few things, bagging some great items to take home.
Lots of people asked us when we would be holding the next 'Big Swap'. We haven't arranged anything yet but watch this space!
