Newlon and home-based work Newlon supports their residents in working at or from home. In line with the Coalition Government's pledge to "end the ban on social tenants starting businesses in their own home," we have changed our tenancy agreement to encourage home-based work. Our aim is to empower our residents either to pursue home-based employment, or to develop and run businesses in their homes. We have been working with London Metropolitan University's 'Workhome Project' on a research project into design for home-based work in social housing [see www.theworkhome.com]. The Evening Standard published a two-page article on this, check it out at: http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/lifestyle/article-23975166-working-from-home-is-a-social-phenomena.do. The 'Newlon Home-based-working residents' Enterprise Club' has been set up, as a result, to support and encourage existing home-based working Newlon residents, or those who would like to start in home-based work. It has relaxed and informal meetings (with tea and home-made cake) on the first Wednesday of the month, 7–9pm at John Scurr Community Centre. Please contact Frances Holliss at f.holliss@londonmet.ac.uk for more details. Everyone is welcome! Newlon has just launched an exciting new initiative that offers business advice, training, equipment grants/ loans and business promotion to Newlon residents interested in developing home-based businesses. Contact Graham Watts if you are interested in taking advantage of this 'Emerging Enterprise' initiative: gwatts@newlonfusion.org.uk / 020 7749 8261.
