Re-Work, Newlon Fusion's award winning refugee project, held it's first award ceremony on 27 October. Cllr Gina Adamou, Mayor of Haringey attended and presented certificates to the successful beneficiaries. The ceremony was also attended by other Haringey councillors and representatives from Re-Work's funding body, Urban Futures. Urban Futures is the regeneration agency for North London. It is used by Haringey Council and the London Development Agency to manage the delivery of specific regeneration programmes, including the Re-Work project. The Re-Work project provides training in personal development and vocational qualifications for refugees with leave to stay. So far thirteen people have acheived the Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene and seven have achieved the VRQ Level 1 in Customer Service. All those who attended the Personal Development course were also awarded a Cerificate of Achievement from Newlon Fusion at the award ceremony. The project started in September and has already been award ‘Best BME Regeneration Project 2006’ by the Federation of Black Housing Organisations. |
